 "Statement of Faith"

In the interest of removing important questions about what this site stands for without requiring the reader to search through large numbers of articles on the site (and then still wonder since I haven't read, and don't necessarily believe, everything found in the articles), below is a summary of some of my core beliefs as well as some I would call "distinctives" that are not essential in the same sense as the core beliefs, but might help distinguish the general point of view found here from other christian sites. I've tried to cover the high points, but if you have concerns not addressed here, use the contact link above to ask your particular question.

Core Beliefs:

To summarize the summary below, basically I'm in agreement with the main historical creeds that most christian churches agree with as well as the main points of the protestant reformation

Sola Scriptura

The bible is necessary and sufficient to reveal who God is and how we relate to Him

Sola Fide and Sola Gratia

Salvation is a gift of unmerited favor from God that is received only through faith in Him

 and His Son Jesus Christ

Solus Christus

Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone- He is the only mediator between God and man

and no one can come to God except through Him and His atoning death on the cross

Soli Deo Gloria

All glory goes to God alone for everything, including creation, salvation and even the faith to

receive that salvation

The Trinity

God is one in substance, but revealed to us in three distinct persons, the Father, Son and

Holy Spirit, who are all eternal and co-equal

Dual Nature of Jesus Christ

Jesus was in every sense God and also in every sense man, except for sin- Jesus was sinless

The Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Jesus physically died on the cross (to atone for our sins), three days later physically rose from the dead, and soon thereafter ascended into heaven

Second Coming of Jesus Christ

Jesus is personally coming again soon to gather His people and judge those who reject Him, but no one knows when

Distinctive Beliefs:

The beliefs summarized below are generally distinctive of "plymouth brethren" teachings which were very influential, but not well known by name, beginning in the early 1800's and into the early 1900's.

 Pre-tribulation Rapture of the Church

Jesus Christ is coming to instantly gather the church (all those that truly believe in Jesus Christ) to Himself into the air, but no one knows when; the seven year tribulation will follow this event

Literal 1000 Year Reign of Jesus Christ

After the tribulation, Jesus Christ will physically return to the earth to reign for 1000 years

Plural Leadership and Ministry in the Church

There is no such thing in the bible as "one man" ministry or leadership; neither is there an "every man" ministry

Liberty in the Use of Gifts and in the Expression of Prayer and Worship

God gives distinct gifts to every member of the body of Christ and they should all have liberty to exercise them without needing the permission of others- opportunity should be given for the Spirit to lead ministry, prayer and worship in the church when it is gathered together

Unity of the Spirit

As members of the body of Christ we are all responsible to each other to maintain fellowship and discipline in the local and corporate church

Calvinism/Arminianism

I believe in some elements of both, but don't believe all elements of either- the bible doesn't quite fit into either
